Keyboard Bassist
Goal:
- Provide the song's rhythmic foundations by using your keyboard as the bass guitar.
How to Play:
- Pretend that your QWERTY keyboard is a 4-string bass guitar. The lowest string is the keyboard row starting with letter Z, the second lowest string is the row starting with A and so on.
- Pressing the first key of each row is equivalent to playing an open string note. (E.g. pressing Z when the bass guitar is tuned to EADG will produce a low E note).
- Pressing the second key in the row is equivalent to fretting the first fret and so on.(E.g. pressing X when the bass guitar is tuned to EADG will produce an F note).
- Each row has 9 frets (instead of 24 frets like an actual bass guitar) so the tonal range is quite limited compared to the real stuff.
I do not own any of the music or MIDI files used in this project.
Song Catalogue:
- I Bleed - Pixies (Easy)
- Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz (Easy)
- Cannonball - The Breeders (Medium)
- Lounge Act - Nirvana (Hard)
Future Work
- Make the game work more like a rhythm game by using MIDI tracks to show indicators of incoming notes that should be played, and calculate the accuracy of player's bass playing.
- Provide a better tone for the bass instrument.
